Nathan
When Nathan was 4, our pediatrician told us he would outgrow it and confirmed with us that Nathan was just a "heavy sleeper". And when Nathan was 6, the pediatrician told us to wake him up in the middle of the night and take him to the bathroom. When Nathan was 8, they told us there was medicine we could give him, but they didn't really recommend it. They told us to just wait and he would outgrow it.
Now imagine what it's like to have a child crying because he can't spend the night at a friend's house. Or when your child has a friend spend the night, which was rare, he was so self-conscious that his friend might see the pull-up or hear the noise of his pull-up when it was time for bed. He couldn't enjoy playing and just being a kid.
There were nights when I would put Nathan to bed and he would get tears in his eyes and ask me why his brother, who is 4 years younger than him, doesn't have to wear a pull-up to bed.
The terrible part of this story is that I believed our pediatrician. We did all the things he had recommended. Yet, here we are, my son is 9 1/2 and he is dying inside.
Since our very first visit with Dr. Bryan, just 2 months ago, Nathan has only had 2 accidents. At first, every morning we would ask Nathan if he was dry. When he would say yes, we would say, "Thanks, Dr. Bryan!". For the first time, he gets to wear underwear to bed, something so silly, but such a big deal to us.
Nathan loves to go see Dr. Bryan. I only wish we had met him when Nathan was 4. He has changed our lives and we are forever grateful.
